The morning rains cleared and Opening Day on the Bay turned into, according to one of our guests “One of the top days I have had on the water.” The Schooner Freda B had the honor of leading the Opening Day parade behind the San Francisco fireboat Phoenix. We made sure to dress her to the nines, proudly flying the biggest American Flag we could find. The crew joked about tacking the topsail flag in the gusty winds. Opening day is always special as it is the chance to see our friends and colleagues on the water decorated and looking sharp including Potomoc, Seaward, USA 76 and many more. After blessing the fleet in Raccoon Straits the Potomoc joined the parade behind us and we slowly motored down the city front from Crissy Field to Pier 39. There were large crowds and cheers at the St. Francis Yacht Club, aboard the Hornblower Committee Boat and at Aquatic Park as the parade made its way to Pier 39. We radioed to Potomoc and several vessels decided to continue on to McCovey Cove to give 3 cheers to the Giants (who won against the Indians 4-1). We had a great time aboard the Freda B serving lobster rolls from the Seafood Peddler and a variety of local wine, cheese, nuts and olives to our guests on board. They came from the East Bay, South Bay, Los Angeles and our homeport of Sausalito to participate in this special day hosted by the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association. The San Francisco Bay once again provided a spectacular arena to kick off another great sailing season, we look forward to seeing you on the water!
