Non-Profit Vessel Takes BAADS Vets For a Sail

The good ship Pegasus, sailing out of Berkeley, worked with BAADS (Bay Area Association of DIsabled Sailors) to take some Vets out for a sailing on January 5th and sent out this report:

BAADS – Veterans Sail, Jan. 5, 2014

Crew for this voyage was Captain: Paul Kassatkin, Mate: Mark Caplin, Susan Sonthal, Laurie Kozisek, Natasha Pyle and Ken Stehr. We had a total of fourteen passengers.

As most long time Bay Area sailors know, some of our best sailing conditions are during the winter months and today was one of those magical days. The wind started out light and variable, but we watched for a wind line and found it about two hundred yards out and north of Berkeley. Eventually, most of Central Bay “filled in,” but. with the wind out of the ENE we opted for a beam reach north rather than running dead down-wind toward the Golden Gate. Red Rock would be our turning point to return. On the way we gave way to the Berkeley Yacht Club Chowder Race, a Richmond Yacht Club race and a tanker departing the Richmond Chevron Dock for sea.
Conditions were ideal with sunny skies, clear visibility and temperatures in the 60s. Winds were NE to ENE at 5-10 knots. Passengers were a joy and crew worked flawlessly.
Fair Winds and Following Seas,
Captain Paul Kassatkin
